The Canadian Disability Policy Alliance seeks to create and mobilize knowledge for more equitable and effective disability policy in Canada. The work of the CDPA is carried out by 5 research teams located in various parts of Canada.
The Federal Disability Policy team focuses on the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, disability tax and savings programs, disability statistics, status reports on disability in Canada, and other disability policies within federal jurisdiction. This research is carried out by the members of the CDPA Secretariat.
The Citizenship team focuses on issues of human rights, equity, immigration, electoral participation, and culture and recreation policies
The Education team focuses on inclusive education and the provincial policies that do and don’t enable, support, and enforce inclusive education in Canada
The Employment team focuses on incentives to employers, training for disabled workers, and other policies related to promoting long-term attachment to the labour force for people with disabilities
The Health Services team focuses on access to primary care, veteran’s health, preparation of health professionals, and the interface between health and disability
Each team has developed a detailed 5 year research plan which can be viewed in the CDPA Research Agenda document.
