Afghanistan has seen more Canadians affected by military service-related injuries and illnesses than any time since the Korean War, yet Canada still lags behind its allies in research on military, veteran and family health. As our military personnel return from Afghanistan, there is an urgent need to understand military and veteran health.

This project involves a scoping review of the Canadian peer-reviewed and grey literature to identify the current state of the literature on Veterans’ health in Canada. In light of the global explosion of expert opinion and research findings on veterans’ health issues, this study examines the extent of the existing literature in the Canadian context. This study thematically identifies the state of the literature in order to inform researchers on potential knowledge gaps, and to determine emerging research trends on veterans’ health in Canada.
