A new report published by CDPA Education Team co-lead Dr Gordon Porter of Inclusive Education Canada/CACL and Angèla AuCoin of Université de Moncton will be influential in shaping inclusive education practices in New Brunswick in the coming years.

In December 2010, New Brunswick’s Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Jody Carr announced that Porter and AuCoin would be engaged to facilitate a review of inclusive education in the province and evaluate how the 2005 MacKay Report (Connecting Care and Challenge: Tapping Our Human Potential Inclusive Education) had been implemented. The review process has culminated in the creation of this new report, which provides an update of the actions taken to address the recommendations set out in the MacKay Report.

Dr. Porter and Dr. AuCoin’s report – Strengthening Inclusion, Strengthening Schools: Report of the Review of Inclusive Education Programs and Practices in New Brunswick Schools: An Action Plan for Growth – provides systemic, district, school and classroom strategies. The action plan in this report identifies 12 significant themes that emerged through the district, school and stakeholder consultations and provides a summary of the thoughts, experiences and perspectives shared by those who represented each of these groups.

In June 2012, Dr. Porter and Dr. AuCoin were appointed  to chair a three year implementation process of the recommendations made in their report.  For more information, please see Dr. Porter and Dr. AuCoin’s report by following the link below.
